Enzyme exfoliation is one of my favorite beauty secrets for both the face and body. It’s a gentle yet effective way to elevate your skincare routine without the risk of irritation, over-exfoliation, or damaging your skin barrier. Unlike AHAs and BHAs, which work by sloughing off dead skin cells, enzymes—derived from fruit acids—dissolve dead skin cells, making them a more skin-friendly option for regular exfoliation.
When I formulated my skincare line, I was mindful of how many people develop sensitized skin from using products that are too strong for their skin's needs. That’s why I chose fruit-based enzymes as the active ingredient in my Natural Enzyme Mask. Like AHAs and BHAs, enzymes help treat concerns such as hyperpigmentation, blemishes, and dullness—but in a way that’s gentler and more supportive of overall skin health.
Interestingly, as the skincare industry becomes more diverse, consumers have been raving about both Black-owned products and Korean beauty products. What stands out is the similarity in their formulations—both tend to focus on hydration and nourishment rather than relying heavily on active ingredients. This approach strengthens the skin’s barrier, allowing active ingredients to work more effectively while reducing signs of aging and protecting against free radical damage.
Here are my top 5 favorite ways to use my Natural Enzyme Mask to target various skin concerns:
- For Hyperpigmentation/Dullness: Apply the Natural Enzyme Mask as an overnight mask treatment to wake up with glowing, dewy skin. Cleanse, toner and apply your mask by gently massaging it into the skin.
- For Acne/Blemishes: Keep your mask refrigerated and use weekly to reduce blemishes, puffiness and texture. Cleanse, apply the mask for up to 10 minutes then rinse and follow up with any serums/moisturizer.
- For Clogged Pores: Use your mask with steam (or while in the shower) to further activate enzymes and loosen congestion. Cleanse, apply the mask for up to 10 minutes then rinse and follow up with any serums/moisturizer.
- For Lip Care: Apply to the lips 2-3 nights per week for brightening and removal of dead skin cells. Cleanse, apply the mask for 5-10 minutes then rinse. Follow up with hydrating lip serum/moisturizer.
- For Bikini Area: Help prevent and reduce ingrown hairs post waxing and shaving. Apply the mask to clean skin for up to 10 minutes. Rinse the mask and apply hydrating serum.
